“Sacred Cow” Hamburgers -- I’m Lovin’ It

On the physical level, Jeet Kune Do deals with the science of unarmed combat. It was designed, in part, to kill a lot of “sacred cows” of myth, dogma, and tradition that had existed in the martial arts world for centuries. This was not done out of malice, but rather to clear away the clouds of misperception, eradicate the many fallacies concerning martial arts, and help people understand what martial art training was really about.

Let me be very clear from the outset. This is a “Jeet Kune Do” site, not a “Bruce Lee” fan website (there are countless of those out there already). Bruce Lee and Jeet Kune Do are not the same thing (although the two are intimately connected). The only time I will discuss Bruce Lee is when it pertains to a particular subject we are discussing (Lee being recognized as an expert on a subject) or from an anecdotal perspective.

Some of the people who read this article will not like it. It may upset them or disrupt their status quo. But as the old saying goes, “Often, it is easier to tell people what they want to hear than what they need to know.” In my over 37 years of involvement in Jeet Kune Do, it seems that at certain times it becomes necessary to educate (or in some cases, re-educate) people with regard to the true nature of Jeet Kune Do.
