We do not teach a ‘style’ of martial art, nor do we teach a “mixture of styles.” We offer students a professional method of training progression. This training process is built around one objective; to help each student cultivate their body as a martial instrument and develop their ability to express themselves to the highest degree of efficiency and effectiveness in any type of combative situation.
We focus on the “essentials” of martial art training. No gimmicks, no bells and whistles. No needless training activity or unnecessary classes. When it comes to martial art training we understand and make a clear delineation between ‘skill’ conditioning and ‘physical’ conditioning. We also understand the principle of skill specificity and the fallacy of transference of skill. You won’t find any things such as sledgehammers, truck tires, Swiss balls, heavy ropes, etc. in my facility. We will, however, be more than happy to discuss proper physical conditioning and how it relates to their martial art training with our students if they desire.
Much more than simply a martial art --
Martial art training is much more than simply learning to throw a bunch of kicks and punches or execute a plethora of various locks and throws.
Every day, each of us has to step into the “arena” that is known as “life.” The training floor serves as a microcosm for that arena. Students learn about themselves on the training floor. They discover who they are and how they function and react in the world. They find out their strengths, uncover their weaknesses, and confront any barriers or hang-ups that might be acting as “chains” to limit them and restrict their personal growth. Through training, students learn to adapt to and overcome any type of opponent they’re facing, be it a physical opponent on the street, or an “internal” opponent such as self-doubt, fear, insecurity, lack of initiative, or low-self-esteem.
Each time you step on the training floor will be a new experience, and you will come away a different person because you will have learned about yourself. By interacting with JKD you start to develop a greater sense of self.
Jeet Kune Do is much more than simply a martial art. It’s a fluid, non-restrictive philosophy toward life and living. Whether you want to become a more proficient martial artist, be a better parent or spouse, or increase your understanding of yourself and the world around you, regardless of what your goals, dreams and desires may be, our goal is to aid you in your personal development and help you liberate yourself from anything acting as a barrier or limitation in your life. |
